With so much going on in our lives, it is important that we always prioritize our self-care and take care of our bodies and minds. Sometimes we set goals at the start of the year but we quickly forget to keep up with them. Here in the City of Greeley Recreation, we know how you value your health, so we have some ideas for self-care routines that you can start and keep up throughout the year.
Create a Clean and Organized Space
If you want to continue a healthy new year then you need to start from a clean slate and you can do that by decluttering your home. When our house is a mess, we tend to be a bit more stressed out because subconsciously, we feel like we are losing control of our surroundings and it can lead to deeper issues. You should declutter by going room by room and finding a space for every item, and anything you no longer need should be thrown out or donated. Find a spot for everything and keep it there. That way, you can keep that same organization throughout the year.
Make a Habit to Exercise
It is a good idea to prioritize your health during the year so you can stay strong enough to take care of your family and accomplish your other goals. Many people start a diet at the start of the year but give up soon after. Many people quit because they think they have to spend all day at the gym, but the truth is that you can get slim and feel great by exercising only 20 minutes a morning. Try cardio, light weights, or walks in the park and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. You will need to turn this workout routine into a habit. They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit, so try doing it for that long and you may be able to keep it up.
Stay True to Your Career Goals
The best way to stay active and mentally motivated is to create some career goals at the start of the year and work towards them over the next 12 months. You can stick to your career goals by finding an ally at work that you partner up with and keep each other on track.
For many, their career goal is to further their education or get a degree in a new program so they can find their true calling. If this is you, then you might consider getting your bachelor’s online. This is an especially great option if you need to continue working or taking care of your family because you can log on in your own time and still get the same degree as the in-person programs. When researching schools, make sure that they are accredited and that the cost fits within your budget.
Make It a Point to Get Enough Sleep
If you want to have the energy to exercise in the morning and get through the day with little anxiety then you should try to get your seven to nine hours of sleep every night. When we sleep, our immune system has a chance to rest so we get sick less often. On top of that, there is a mental health benefit because when we rest, our mind gets to rest as well, so we wake up the next morning ready to take on the world.
Just like with the other habits, it will take a routine to make sure that you get enough sleep night after night. To do so, you will want to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends, so you can keep your circadian rhythm in check. Also, make it a habit to not look at your phone while you lay in bed so the blue light doesn’t inhibit your sleep.
As you can see, it is possible to live a healthy life and keep up that positive lifestyle all year long. If you would like to see how you can practice those habits at with Greeley Recreation, then email us at [email protected].
