Greeley’s Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation (AIR) program will host Special Olympics Colorado for a Learn to Skate event from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, July 24.

This event takes place at the Greeley Ice Haus, 900 8th Ave. This event is designed to give children with intellectual and developmental disabilities an opportunity to be introduced to ice skating with extra support.

Greeley’s AIR program provides therapeutic recreation programs and services to individuals who have physical or intellectual disabilities in a safe and fun environment where everyone can stay active, regardless of differences.

“The program has the goal of helping people with disabilities live healthy and active lives,” said Kassi Decuir, City of Greeley AIR coordinator.

“We have a shared goal of making the ice accessible to everyone,” said Mark Mann, recreation supervisor at the Greeley Ice Haus. “Whether this is through adaptive activities such as sled hockey or inclusive programming like Learn to Skate.”

While the July 24 event is open only to those already involved with Special Olympics, the next Learn to Skate classes begin at the Ice Haus, Sept. 11. If interested parties need accommodations or additional support for this or any other Greeley Recreation activities, please get in touch with AIR at 970-350-9779.

Registration for Greeley Recreation fall sports is now open until Aug. 2 for youth NFL flag football, youth soccer, and adult softball. This includes adaptive and inclusive unified leagues for youth.

Greeley’s AIR program will host a free event Aug. 21 to provide more information on adaptive and inclusive recreation in addition to kickball, crafts, and other activities. The event takes place from 10 a.m. – noon at Avens Village Playground, 1300 D St. RSVP to the event at .
