Class Descriptions
Beginning Ballet & Tap
The beginning levels are an introduction to ballet and tap basics using methods designed for young imaginative minds and bodies. Students are given the opportunity to move, stretch, and improve self-confidence while being introduced to basic ballet concepts, body alignment, posture, locomotor skills, as well as develop self-expression through creative movement. These levels introduce the basic concepts of both ballet and tap, including beginning steps, terminology, musicality, focus, flexibility and expression. These classes promote group interaction, creativity, body awareness and dance etiquette. Open to boys and girls ages 3- 6, half of every class period is spent on ballet and half tap. Ballet shoes, tap shoes, tights and dress code leotard or boys’ dress code shirt are required. Most students spend an entire academic year at one level before progressing to the next.
Beginning Ballet & Tap I | Age 3+ | No dance experience required
Beginning Ballet & Tap II | Age 4+ |Â Some dance experience required
Beginning Ballet & Tap III | Age 5+ | 1 Year of dance experience required
Intermediate Ballet & Tap
The intermediate levels build on the skills introduced in Beginning Ballet & Tap. The class emphasizes proper placement, developing strength, building endurance, and increasing flexibility through center and across the floor exercises. These levels build on concepts of both ballet and tap, with an intermediate level of steps, terminology, musicality, focus, flexibility and expression. Open to boys and girls ages 6-9, half of every class period is spent on ballet and half tap. Ballet shoes, tap shoes, tights and dress code leotard or boys’ dress code shirt are required. Advancement from level to level is based on annual evaluations of the individual student’s technical ability, physical aptitude, strength, classroom effort and attendance.
