The Greeley Active Adult Center (AAC) will host an open house from 3:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22. The facility, located at 1010 6th St. in downtown Greeley, offers an array of opportunities for community members over 50 years old.

The open house offers the community the opportunity to tour the AAC and discover the amenities and programs offered. Community members can enjoy light refreshments, giveaways, a prize drawing, and a senior resource fair. In 2022, AAC staff plan to bring back programs this year including day excursions, overnight trips, and international travel.

“People should come to the open house to see the hidden gem we have in Greeley for people over 50,” said Tiffany Skoglund, recreation supervisor. “We have something to offer for everyone from billiards to ceramics to our woodshop.”

Skoglund hopes the event will break stereotypes about the center.

“The Active Adult Center is not a quiet place where people sit around; we have people playing corn hole, billiards, learning new skills, volunteering, and becoming social in the community,” she said.

The social aspect of the center is also an essential piece of its success.

“People who are still young at 50 looking for something to do and a way to meet new people have to join the AAC,” Skoglund said.

Currently, the facility opens weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The AAC is in the process of hiring part-time staff to extend hours to accommodate the 50 plus audience who work during business hours. This spring, city officials plan to expand hours and stay open until 9 p.m. two nights a week. and open noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. In addition, the Active Adult Center team is planning new programs and trips for evenings and weekends.

Community members can sign up as a Greeley Active Adult Center member during the event or open AAC hours. Memberships cost just $35 a year for Greeley residents or $50 for non-residents.

Staff, volunteers and vendors are required to wear masks at this event. City officials strongly recommend facemasks when visiting the ACC or attending this event, but they are not required.
